Undeniable Hunger

Deuteronomy 8:3 -

"man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD."
1 Peter 2:2 -
"Like newborn babies, crave spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation."
When scripture refers to spiritual milk, it's referring to the Word of God. We eat food regularly, but have you ever thought about exactly how our body responds to food? Before we can make use of the food we eat, we have to break it down into its constituent parts (digest). Then, the simpler units can easily be absorbed and distributed throughout the body. It starts with chewing food--> swallowing --> then enzymes break down the food so that it can be absorbed. Food gives us energy and keeps our body functioning properly. If we don't eat enough, our body starts to shut down.

Babies who do not have an appetite are labeled "failure to thrive." A healthy newborn has a ravenous appetite. Desiring food as a baby is a positive sign of good health. A lack of desire to nurse signals a serious problem. The prime means of spiritual growth is feeding on the Word (for all believers, not just baby Christians).

Food is absolutely essential to thrive. It is healthy to have an appetite and food keeps us functioning properly. How is your appetite?
